Hi there! I'm Annie, and I am originally from Arizona. I am a 22-year retired Air Force Veteran and a 20-year Coloradan. I am an avid holistic wellness enthusiast. I specialize in chronic illness, autoimmune struggles, unresolved childhood/partner/religious trauma, and the grief that comes with those. I am a mom of two kiddos and an American Akita owner. I love to laugh as we heal. Healing can be fun! Life is often referred to as a book. Two pages are written for everyone; the first is about LIFE, and the last is about death. The center pages are empty. What you write in those pages can be whatever you choose. Even when the book gets dirty, torn, or broken, the blank pages are still there...waiting for you to fill them. Life is full of twists and turns, and how we are fundamentally taught to handle life varies from person to person. We are all so unique. My view of therapy is that of a helpmate. I walk alongside you in your journey toward healing and wholeness. Trauma is written in every single one of our books to some degree. What happens to us can often become a part of our identity. Welcome! Therapy is about having a good "fit" that can blossom into a great therapeutic relationship. A therapist who is willing to listen while working alongside a client is essential. Treatment often sounds very clinical; however, I encourage you to remember that the goals and objectives of treatment are intended to be collaborative and client-directed. Therapists are not meant to "fix" people but are called to be catalysts of change through which the client navigates their circumstances. I have been working in the field of behavioral health for the past 16 years. I believe trust and authenticity are what create a strong foundation in the therapeutic relationship. Everyone has a different perspective on the world. We all have hurts and experiences that make us feel like we need to do more or be more to feel worthy of a good life. No matter your hurts and experiences, I will meet you where you are with honesty and genuine curiosity about your worldview. I will walk with you through the hurdles of life. What therapy with me is like: I am an LGBTQ+ affirming clinician and use an integrative counseling approach, drawing from multiple modalities and theories. I most often draw from person-centered and reality therapy perspectives. I challenge my clients by offering multiple points of view while ensuring they feel they have the autonomy to take with them what works and leave the rest. I often assign homework between sessions so that growth can occur in and out of the therapy space. I welcome and encourage my clients to give me feedback about what is and isn’t working for them. While I have undergone extensive training to be an effective therapist, my clients are the experts of their own lives, and I strongly encourage them to use their instinctual sense of whether something is working or not. I also believe therapy is a great space to practice new ways of communicating and existing in the world—unsure how to have adaptive confrontation? I will support you in confronting me in sessions to practice a new skill. I work with my clients to feel their emotions and not just think about them.
