Cognitive Processing (CPT) Therapy at Overcomers

Specifically designed to help you heal from the impact of traumatic experiences. CPT helps you process what happened and challenge negative thoughts and beliefs that developed because of the trauma. It’s like reframing the event so it has less power over your present.

Finding a CPT Therapist in Colorado

We believe that the thoughts trauma leaves behind can be examined, challenged, and changed.

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a structured, short-term treatment developed specifically for PTSD. At Overcomers Counseling in Colorado, our CPT-trained therapists help clients identify the "stuck points" — beliefs about safety, trust, or self-blame that trauma leaves behind — and work through them using structured writing and discussion, rather than repeatedly reliving the traumatic memory itself.

Our team of dedicated CPT-trained counselors helps you reframe what happened so it carries less weight in your present life.

Cognitive Processing Therapy Services

What happened to you doesn't have to define how you see yourself now.

CPT is available at our Colorado Springs, Aurora, Pueblo, and Fort Collins offices, and via teletherapy statewide, frequently used alongside our broader trauma-focused therapy services.

CPT for PTSD and Trauma-Related Beliefs

Trauma often distorts beliefs about safety, control, or self-worth. CPT gives you tools to examine those beliefs directly and build ones that are more accurate and less distressing.

Benefits of Cognitive Processing Therapy

Evidence-Based for PTSD — CPT is one of the most recommended treatments for trauma-related conditions.

Structured and Time-Limited — CPT typically follows a defined number of sessions with clear milestones.

Doesn't Require Reliving Every Detail — The focus is on beliefs and meaning, not repeated retelling.

If trauma has left you with beliefs that no longer serve you, connect with Overcomers Counseling to find a CPT therapist in Colorado.

Across hundreds of client reviews, one theme comes through again and again: people feel truly heard here. Clients describe finally finding a therapist who understood them, gaining real tools for anxiety, trauma, and anger management, and walking away from sessions feeling lighter and more hopeful. Many say Overcomers was the first place therapy actually felt like the right fit — a space to be met with warmth, patience, and genuine care on the path to becoming who they're meant to be.

Dr. Roncalli is such a huge support and help for me. She is brilliant, and very quickly added insight, developed applicable life skills, and is a grounding presence. Overcomers practice is clean, safe, and the atmosphere is calming. I'm thankful I met her when I did.

The staff is super awesome. It’s a breath of fresh air being able to get the weight off of my chest. 5/5 10/10 whatever the scale. I never realized how much it would help. Wish I would’ve done it sooner! Better late than never !

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I have been through some very extreme trauma, and I've also done so much research and done so much work on my own. As a very self aware patient, it's insanely difficult to find a good fit for a therapist. Sometimes you just need to find someone who thinks outside of the box. Someone who makes you see a different perspective. I found this in Stefanie Kerr. She the most wonderful therapist I have ever met, and I've met A LOT! She encourages you to see yourself as just a normal human. You get stuck in this mindset that you aren't normal and get used to the label of being a broken person and she somehow makes you feel like you were never actually broken at all, you were just using your toolbox all wrong. She gives you the guidance to use what you found that works for you and makes it better! She smashes toxic coping mechanisms and helps you turn them into beneficial ones. She not only improved my life but my relationship with emotions in general. Along the way therapy with her has even helped my marriage!! Not only has my spouse seen a huge change in me, but my peers have pointed out how absolutely zen I am compared to how emotionally dysregulated I used to be. The way she changes your relationship with emotions is absolutely magical and I will recommend her to everyone I know until I die. She is an absolute blessing to the therapy world.
