How Our Therapists Approach Depression Treatment

Our Colorado-based providers draw on approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and, for clients who want it, faith-integrated care rooted in a Christian worldview, while remaining welcoming to clients of every background. What if I don't feel motivated to go to counseling?

We get it. Depression often drains motivation, energy, and hope. A lack of motivation is itself a common symptom of depression—not a failure. You don’t have to feel “ready” to start. Just showing up is enough. We’ll meet you where you are and move at a pace that feels manageable.

How can counseling help me get my life back?

How can counseling help me get my life back?

When you're dealing with depression, even the smallest tasks can feel like climbing a mountain. Counseling helps you build the skills and stamina to make that climb. Through evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), we help challenge unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that reinforce depression.

We'll help you challenge the negative thought patterns that weigh you down and find ways to re-engage with your life. Treating depression is not about perfection; it’s about progress and learning how to support yourself with compassion.

What is the goal of depression counseling?

What is the goal of depression counseling?

Living with depression can feel like walking through thick fog every day, where the world looks muted and it’s hard to find your way. The goal of counseling isn’t to instantly make the fog disappear. It’s to give you a powerful flashlight so you can find your path again. Depression counseling helps you better understand your symptoms of depression, identify what’s contributing to them, and learn healthier ways of coping.

We work together to help you understand what's behind the fog, rediscover your sense of purpose, and rebuild your life, one step at a time. We believe in your capacity to feel joy again.

What types of depression can therapy help with?

Therapy can help with many types of depression, including major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia), seasonal affective disorder, postpartum depression, and depression related to life transitions or grief. Your therapist will tailor treatment to your specific needs.

The staff is super awesome. It’s a breath of fresh air being able to get the weight off of my chest. 5/5 10/10 whatever the scale. I never realized how much it would help. Wish I would’ve done it sooner! Better late than never !

I have been through some very extreme trauma, and I've also done so much research and done so much work on my own. As a very self aware patient, it's insanely difficult to find a good fit for a therapist. Sometimes you just need to find someone who thinks outside of the box. Someone who makes you see a different perspective. I found this in Stefanie Kerr. She the most wonderful therapist I have ever met, and I've met A LOT! She encourages you to see yourself as just a normal human. You get stuck in this mindset that you aren't normal and get used to the label of being a broken person and she somehow makes you feel like you were never actually broken at all, you were just using your toolbox all wrong. She gives you the guidance to use what you found that works for you and makes it better! She smashes toxic coping mechanisms and helps you turn them into beneficial ones. She not only improved my life but my relationship with emotions in general. Along the way therapy with her has even helped my marriage!! Not only has my spouse seen a huge change in me, but my peers have pointed out how absolutely zen I am compared to how emotionally dysregulated I used to be. The way she changes your relationship with emotions is absolutely magical and I will recommend her to everyone I know until I die. She is an absolute blessing to the therapy world.
