Pregnancy and the postpartum period bring enormous physical, hormonal, and emotional change, and struggling doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong. Whether you're navigating anxiety during pregnancy, postpartum depression, or just the overwhelming adjustment to new parenthood, our therapists provide support without judgment.

What Perinatal Counseling Can Support

Sessions often focus on processing pregnancy or birth-related anxiety, navigating postpartum mood changes, adjusting to identity shifts in new parenthood, managing relationship changes, and building a support system during this season. You're not required to have it all together.

How Our Therapists Help

Our providers use approaches tailored to the perinatal period, coordinating with your medical providers and, when appropriate, our psychiatry team for medication support. For clients who want it, we also offer faith-integrated counseling that can bring comfort during this season.

FAQs

FAQs about Pregnancy / Prenatal

What is the cause of postpartum depression?

Postpartum depression usually arises from a mix of factors rather than a single cause: the sudden drop in hormones like estrogen and progesterone after childbirth, a personal history of depression or other mental-health conditions, and major life stressors. Physical and emotional exhaustion from childbirth and caring for a newborn, chronic sleep deprivation, and limited support from a partner, family, or friends can all increase the risk. Overcomers Counseling provides compassionate, practical care to help new parents understand these contributors and find steady, evidence-based support as they recover.

What is the goal of counseling during pregnancy?

Pregnancy is a beautiful and transformative journey, but it’s also a time of significant change. The goal of counseling during pregnancy isn't to fix anything. It’s to provide you with a safe space to process the emotional and physical changes that are happening to your body and your life. We can help you manage anxiety about the future, process past trauma, and find a sense of peace and calm so you can enjoy your pregnancy and feel ready for the next chapter.

How can a counselor help with postpartum depression?

Postpartum depression can feel like a sudden, dark cloud that appears after the baby arrives, and it's a lot more than just the baby blues. Counseling helps you navigate this difficult time with support and care. We'll help you understand your feelings, find ways to cope with stress, and develop a plan to get you back on your feet. You are not a bad mom for feeling this way. You are a human being who needs help. We are here for you.

Can a counselor help me with my relationship after a baby?

Having a baby can put a significant strain on a relationship. It's a journey that can feel like you're both in separate boats, just trying to stay afloat. Counseling helps you get back into the same boat. We'll help you communicate more effectively, support each other’s unique coping styles, and find a way to navigate this new chapter as a united team. We believe in your capacity to weather this storm together and emerge stronger on the other side.

What are some common emotional challenges during pregnancy?

Pregnancy is a beautiful journey, but it comes with a lot of emotional baggage. You may feel a mix of excitement, fear, and anxiety. It's normal to feel overwhelmed. Counseling provides a safe space for you to process your feelings without judgment. We'll help you understand what's going on with your mind and body, so you can make informed decisions. Across hundreds of client reviews, one theme comes through again and again: people feel truly heard here. Clients describe finally finding a therapist who understood them, gaining real tools for anxiety, trauma, and anger management, and walking away from sessions feeling lighter and more hopeful. Many say Overcomers was the first place therapy actually felt like the right fit — a space to be met with warmth, patience, and genuine care on the path to becoming who they're meant to be.

Dr. Roncalli is such a huge support and help for me. She is brilliant, and very quickly added insight, developed applicable life skills, and is a grounding presence. Overcomers practice is clean, safe, and the atmosphere is calming. I'm thankful I met her when I did.

The staff is super awesome. It’s a breath of fresh air being able to get the weight off of my chest. 5/5 10/10 whatever the scale. I never realized how much it would help. Wish I would’ve done it sooner! Better late than never !

Stefanie Kerr, LPCC, NCC, MA
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I have been through some very extreme trauma, and I've also done so much research and done so much work on my own. As a very self aware patient, it's insanely difficult to find a good fit for a therapist. Sometimes you just need to find someone who thinks outside of the box. Someone who makes you see a different perspective. I found this in Stefanie Kerr. She the most wonderful therapist I have ever met, and I've met A LOT! She encourages you to see yourself as just a normal human. You get stuck in this mindset that you aren't normal and get used to the label of being a broken person and she somehow makes you feel like you were never actually broken at all, you were just using your toolbox all wrong. She gives you the guidance to use what you found that works for you and makes it better! She smashes toxic coping mechanisms and helps you turn them into beneficial ones. She not only improved my life but my relationship with emotions in general. Along the way therapy with her has even helped my marriage!! Not only has my spouse seen a huge change in me, but my peers have pointed out how absolutely zen I am compared to how emotionally dysregulated I used to be. The way she changes your relationship with emotions is absolutely magical and I will recommend her to everyone I know until I die. She is an absolute blessing to the therapy world.
