Codependency Counseling in Colorado

Putting everyone else's needs before your own until you've lost track of what you even need. Struggling to set boundaries without guilt. Feeling responsible for other people's emotions and choices. You shouldn't have to untangle this pattern alone. Overcomers Counseling offers codependency-focused counseling across Colorado Springs, Aurora, Fort Collins, and Pueblo, plus statewide teletherapy.

You Don't Have to Untangle This Alone

Codependency often develops from earlier relationships or family dynamics, and it can show up as difficulty saying no, an identity built around caretaking, or staying in relationships that aren't good for you. Recognizing this pattern is the first step, and you don't have to change it without support.

Signs of Codependency

Common signs include difficulty setting or maintaining boundaries, an excessive need for approval, taking responsibility for others' feelings or problems, low self-worth tied to being needed, and struggling to identify your own needs or wants. These patterns often show up most clearly in close relationships.

How Our Therapists Help

Our providers use approaches focused on boundary-setting, self-worth, and identity work to help you build healthier, more balanced relationships, including with yourself. For clients who want it, we also offer faith-integrated counseling grounded in identity and worth beyond caretaking.

FAQs

FAQs about Codependency

Find the perfect specialist who gets you—and your needs—better than your favorite barista gets your coffee order.

What is the goal of counseling for codependency?

Codependency can feel like you’re in a rowboat with someone else, where you’re so focused on keeping their boat afloat that you forget to check on your own. The goal of counseling isn’t to abandon the other boat, but to teach you how to row your own. We’ll help you rediscover your own needs and desires, build a stronger sense of self, and learn to set healthy boundaries. You are not just a supporting character in someone else's story; you are the hero of your own.

How do I know if I'm in a codependent relationship?

Recognizing codependency can be difficult, as it often feels like you’re just being a good partner or friend. But if your self-worth is tied to how much you do for others, if you constantly make sacrifices to keep the peace, or if you feel guilty when you say "no," it's likely a sign of codependency. We understand that this can feel confusing and disorienting. We can work together to help you understand your patterns and make sure you're getting the support you need, too.

Can counseling help me set healthy boundaries?

Setting boundaries can feel like the scariest thing in the world, like putting up a "Keep Out" sign for a beloved friend. In reality, healthy boundaries are like a well-tended garden fence; they protect your peace without shutting others out. We understand that this is a difficult skill to learn, especially if you’ve spent your life putting others first. Counseling provides a safe space for you to practice saying "yes" to yourself and "no" to others, which is an important step in building your own sense of security.

How can I stop worrying about what others think?

Worrying about what others think can feel like a constant, noisy chatter in your mind, preventing you from ever truly being yourself. Codependency often comes with a huge burden of caring what everyone else thinks. Counseling helps you turn down that volume. We'll work together to help you build self-worth from the inside out, rather than relying on external validation. You are not a helpless passenger; you have the power to create your own happiness, and we're here to help you believe in yourself.

Across hundreds of client reviews, one theme comes through again and again: people feel truly heard here. Clients describe finally finding a therapist who understood them, gaining real tools for anxiety, trauma, and anger management, and walking away from sessions feeling lighter and more hopeful. Many say Overcomers was the first place therapy actually felt like the right fit — a space to be met with warmth, patience, and genuine care on the path to becoming who they're meant to be.

Dr. Roncalli is such a huge support and help for me. She is brilliant, and very quickly added insight, developed applicable life skills, and is a grounding presence. Overcomers practice is clean, safe, and the atmosphere is calming. I'm thankful I met her when I did.

The staff is super awesome. It’s a breath of fresh air being able to get the weight off of my chest. 5/5 10/10 whatever the scale. I never realized how much it would help. Wish I would’ve done it sooner! Better late than never !

Stefanie Kerr, LPCC, NCC, MA
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I have been through some very extreme trauma, and I've also done so much research and done so much work on my own. As a very self aware patient, it's insanely difficult to find a good fit for a therapist. Sometimes you just need to find someone who thinks outside of the box. Someone who makes you see a different perspective. I found this in Stefanie Kerr. She the most wonderful therapist I have ever met, and I've met A LOT! She encourages you to see yourself as just a normal human. You get stuck in this mindset that you aren't normal and get used to the label of being a broken person and she somehow makes you feel like you were never actually broken at all, you were just using your toolbox all wrong. She gives you the guidance to use what you found that works for you and makes it better! She smashes toxic coping mechanisms and helps you turn them into beneficial ones. She not only improved my life but my relationship with emotions in general. Along the way therapy with her has even helped my marriage!! Not only has my spouse seen a huge change in me, but my peers have pointed out how absolutely zen I am compared to how emotionally dysregulated I used to be. The way she changes your relationship with emotions is absolutely magical and I will recommend her to everyone I know until I die. She is an absolute blessing to the therapy world.
