Video Game Addiction Counseling in Colorado

Gaming that's taken over responsibilities, relationships, or sleep. A child or teen who seems unreachable outside of a screen. Promises to cut back that don't stick. You shouldn't have to manage this alone. Overcomers Counseling offers video game addiction counseling across Colorado Springs, Aurora, Fort Collins, and Pueblo, plus statewide teletherapy.

You Don't Have to Manage This Alone

Excessive gaming is often a way of coping with anxiety, depression, social struggles, or a need for control and achievement that feels harder to find elsewhere. Whether it's you or your child who's struggling, our therapists help address what's underneath the gaming, not just the behavior itself.

Signs Gaming May Have Become a Problem

Common signs include gaming despite negative consequences to school, work, or relationships, irritability or distress when unable to play, loss of interest in other activities, declining sleep or hygiene, and using gaming to escape difficult emotions. If gaming feels like it's running the show, support can help.

How Our Therapists Help

Our providers use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and family-based approaches to help identify triggers, build healthier coping tools, and support families in setting boundaries that stick. For clients who want it, we also offer faith-integrated counseling.

What is the goal of counseling for video game addiction?

When you're struggling with a video game addiction, it can feel like you're in a digital cage. You're connected to a virtual world, but disconnected from your own life. The goal of counseling isn't just to get you offline. It's to help you reclaim your life and find a new sense of purpose. We'll work together to help you understand the "why" behind your reliance on video games and help you find new ways to connect to the world around you. You can live a life that is full and rewarding.

Can therapy help me stop my video game addiction?

Yes! Therapy is a powerful tool to help you stop the cycle of video game addiction. Think of it as a guide to help you find your way out of the maze. Therapy helps you identify the triggers that lead to your compulsive video game use and teaches you new coping skills. We’ll also help you find new ways to handle life’s stresses and difficult emotions without turning to video games. We believe you have the power to change and to find a new way to live.

What are some common signs of video game addiction?

It can be hard to know if you have a video game addiction. But if your video game use is impacting your relationships, work, or health, it might be a sign that you have a problem. You may be spending more time on video games than on other important things in your life. We understand that this is a difficult thing to admit. We'll provide a safe and supportive space for you to explore what’s happening and help you take the first step to a better life.

What's the difference between a healthy hobby and an addiction?

A healthy hobby is something you enjoy and can easily put down. Video game addiction is when the hobby becomes a compulsive need that you feel you can't control. It's when your video game use starts to negatively impact your life. We can work together to help you understand your unique experience and develop a plan to take control.

Dr. Roncalli is such a huge support and help for me. She is brilliant, and very quickly added insight, developed applicable life skills, and is a grounding presence. Overcomers practice is clean, safe, and the atmosphere is calming. I'm thankful I met her when I did.

The staff is super awesome. It’s a breath of fresh air being able to get the weight off of my chest. 5/5 10/10 whatever the scale. I never realized how much it would help. Wish I would’ve done it sooner! Better late than never !

Stefanie Kerr, LPCC, NCC, MA
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I have been through some very extreme trauma, and I've also done so much research and done so much work on my own. As a very self aware patient, it's insanely difficult to find a good fit for a therapist. Sometimes you just need to find someone who thinks outside of the box. Someone who makes you see a different perspective. I found this in Stefanie Kerr. She the most wonderful therapist I have ever met, and I've met A LOT! She encourages you to see yourself as just a normal human. You get stuck in this mindset that you aren't normal and get used to the label of being a broken person and she somehow makes you feel like you were never actually broken at all, you were just using your toolbox all wrong. She gives you the guidance to use what you found that works for you and makes it better! She smashes toxic coping mechanisms and helps you turn them into beneficial ones. She not only improved my life but my relationship with emotions in general. Along the way therapy with her has even helped my marriage!! Not only has my spouse seen a huge change in me, but my peers have pointed out how absolutely zen I am compared to how emotionally dysregulated I used to be. The way she changes your relationship with emotions is absolutely magical and I will recommend her to everyone I know until I die. She is an absolute blessing to the therapy world.
