Why Couples Counseling?

Couples counseling is a safe and supportive space for you and your partner to work through any issues or challenges in your relationship. It provides an unbiased environment where both partners can express their thoughts and feelings without judgment. Our experienced therapists are trained to help couples address underlying conflicts, navigate ongoing relationship issues, and foster improved communication and emotional safety.

We understand that relationships go through ups and downs, and it's normal to face difficulties along the way. However, when those challenges begin to erode trust, intimacy, or connection, marriage counseling or couples therapy in Colorado can help you reset patterns and strengthen your bond. Couples counseling can provide the tools and guidance needed to improve your relationship and move forward together with clarity and confidence.

Our Approach to Couples Counseling

Our goal is to create a safe and non-judgmental space where both partners feel heard, valued, and respected. As experienced marriage counselors and couple therapists, we focus on helping partners understand one another’s emotional needs and communication styles.

We understand that every relationship is unique, which is why we adapt our methods to fit your specific needs and goals. Whether you're dealing with recurring arguments, loss of intimacy, or major life transitions, our counseling services support couples at every stage—both in person and through couples counseling online.

FAQs

FAQs about Couples Counseling at Overcomers

Can couples counseling help even if we’re not married?

Yes. Couples counseling is beneficial for anyone in a committed relationship, including dating, engaged, and long-term partners. Our therapists work with couples at all stages to strengthen communication, address relationship issues, and build healthier connections—marriage is not required to benefit.

Does online couples therapy work?

Yes, online couples therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions! Many couples find it more convenient, accessible, and flexible for busy schedules. With a skilled therapist, couples can work on communication, conflict resolution, and emotional connection from the comfort of their own home. It’s like having your relationship “coach” pop into your living room—without needing to worry about traffic.

Does insurance cover couples therapy/marriage counseling?

Most insurance plans do not cover couples or marriage counseling because it’s considered a relationship service rather than treatment for an individual’s mental health condition. However, if one partner is being treated for an individual mental health issue, some sessions may be covered when the partner is present. Many couples choose to self-pay or explore flexible spending accounts (FSAs) or health savings accounts (HSAs) to cover the cost.

Is couples therapy effective?

Yes! Couples therapy can be highly effective, especially when both partners are willing to actively participate. It provides a safe space to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and rebuild trust. Think of it as learning a new “relationship language” together—sometimes we just need a little guidance to get fluent. The effectiveness often depends on the commitment of both partners and the therapist’s approach, so finding the right fit matters.

Does insurance cover individual and couples counseling on the same day?

Couples counseling is often not covered by insurance. As an alternative, you can schedule an individual therapy session (covered by insurance) followed by a self-paid couples session on the same day.

In the rare instance that insurance does cover couples therapy, it’s important to note that individual and couples sessions cannot be conducted on the same day.

Is couples counseling covered by Medicaid?

Yes, couples counseling is covered by Medicaid.

Across hundreds of client reviews, one theme comes through again and again: people feel truly heard here. Clients describe finally finding a therapist who understood them, gaining real tools for anxiety, trauma, and anger management, and walking away from sessions feeling lighter and more hopeful. Many say Overcomers was the first place therapy actually felt like the right fit — a space to be met with warmth, patience, and genuine care on the path to becoming who they're meant to be.

I really appreciate how she helped me with my anger management, anxiety, she helped me with my issues with my dad, etc. I really appreciate everything that she did for me and she opened my eyes to realize that there is so much more to life than what you can see with your bare eyes.

The staff is super awesome. It’s a breath of fresh air being able to get the weight off of my chest. 5/5 10/10 whatever the scale. I never realized how much it would help. Wish I would’ve done it sooner! Better late than never !

I have been through some very extreme trauma, and I've also done so much research and done so much work on my own. As a very self aware patient, it's insanely difficult to find a good fit for a therapist. Sometimes you just need to find someone who thinks outside of the box. Someone who makes you see a different perspective. I found this in Stefanie Kerr. She the most wonderful therapist I have ever met, and I've met A LOT! She encourages you to see yourself as just a normal human. You get stuck in this mindset that you aren't normal and get used to the label of being a broken person and she somehow makes you feel like you were never actually broken at all, you were just using your toolbox all wrong. She gives you the guidance to use what you found that works for you and makes it better! She smashes toxic coping mechanisms and helps you turn them into beneficial ones. She not only improved my life but my relationship with emotions in general. Along the way therapy with her has even helped my marriage!! Not only has my spouse seen a huge change in me, but my peers have pointed out how absolutely zen I am compared to how emotionally dysregulated I used to be. The way she changes your relationship with emotions is absolutely magical and I will recommend her to everyone I know until I die. She is an absolute blessing to the therapy world.
