WOW! I am so excited to be on this journey with you in earning your licensure. I am passionate about my work, helping people and working with a caseload that includes clinical supervisees. Collaborating with another clinician is exciting because one of you is going to learn from the other; perhaps, both of you learn from each other. It is great when someone asks me a question, whether a client or another clinician, and I must research and find the answer. I learn so much and then I get to share the information with someone else. Conversations about interventions, clients, self-awareness, ethics, and policy are exciting to delve into.
One of the roles a clinical supervisor fills is the of teacher. I fill this role by helping the supervisee determine their strengths in counseling, promoting self-awareness, and helping the supervisee grow professionally and personally. As a teacher/mentor I can help you grow and develop an understanding of what population you want to work with and what interventions you feel comfortable in using. We will then work to learn how to use those interventions with the population you want on your caseload. We will also explore other interventions and populations because people, diagnoses, and interventions can overlap with each other.
As a consultant, I will help you monitor job performance (yours and others), provide alternative case conceptualization, and achieve goals. My experience will help you grow by taking on a different view of a case, client, or intervention. We will discuss the rights, roles, and responsibilities of each party and how conflict can be settled. We will discuss how organizations run and what sort of organization for which you will choose to work. I will coach you during meetings to help you assess your strengths and needs, knowledge, and deficits. I will be there when things are going great to cheer you on and when things aren't going as great as you think they are to cheer you on and find out the positive aspects of your decisions. Sometimes we just need someone in our corner to help discover answers. I will strive to be the best role model and mentor by helping you develop a sense of professional identity. I will help you in all these roles so that you can go on to be a supervisor.
