Requesting SI Clients

To ensure proper client care, any staff working with SI clients must complete the following form. This is to document that you have the appropriate training and prevent unneeded transfers/referrals to other providers in the midst of working with a high-risk client.

To work with SI clients, a clinician must have/show that they have had some training.  Here are some examples:

  • Attended CE course and/or some other training/webinar/etc.
  • CAMS-Care training
  • AMSR - Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk
  • C-SSRS - Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale training

Also, a clinician must follow OC procedures when working with SI clients, which is all provided in this cheat sheet:  SI Cheat Sheet

Other Guidelines

  • Candidates can work with SI clients.  They can complete assessments, draft safety plans, coordinate wellness checks, etc. if they follow an evidence-based protocol and document appropriately.
  • SI clients can be seen via telehealth.  A specific plan is laid out in the consent form that all teletherapy clinicians have their clients’ consent to reach out to an emergency contact to confirm safety if, for any reason, they are disconnected.  If a client demonstrates ongoing crisis (active SI - including plan and intent for 2+ sessions), the client should be referred out to either in-person services or a higher level of care.
