Treating Siblings or Related Clients

Treating multiple family members, siblings, or related clients can be a complex and ethically sensitive issue. DORA (and Overcomers) generally discourages LPCs and LPCCs from providing individual therapy to multiple members of the same family. However, LCSWs and LMFTs are typically permitted to do so due to their specialized education and training in family dynamics.

The challenge lies in maintaining impartiality and avoiding bias in each individual session, which is crucial for ethical and effective counseling. This delicate balance requires careful consideration and professional judgment.

If a current client wishes for their counselor to see one of their family members, it's best to direct them to book with a different counselor.
