Most of the time, consultations with PCP, attorneys, etc. are not covered by insurance. Therefore, it is up to you to make the client aware of the charges. Some case management work can be billed to insurance via the service code T1017. See requirements here:
- T1017 Consultation Note
- Billing the Service Code T1017
- Usually, an over-the-phone consultation that is less than 10 minutes is free.
You may also charge the client for writing letters. Overcomers leave it up to each provider to determine if they feel competent to write letters of various types (SSID, etc.). Whether you want to provide this service or not is up to you.
Examples of Additional Charges
- You can charge the client for a phone consultation with their PCP or another therapist that lasts more than 10 minutes. These types of charges typically cost $90 an hour. You keep 100% of the time and fee; there’s no admin split.
- You can charge the client for phone consultations with their attorney. These charges are typically $90 an hour. You keep 100% of the time and fee; there’s no admin split.
- Per your signed disclosure statement, you can charge $200 for court subpoenas and prep. 100% of your time/fee is yours; there’s no admin split.
- You can also bill the clients for letters—most typically charge $30 for any letter they provide a client that is not a traditional treatment summary.
- Letter templates are found in the Google Docs Template Gallery.
